What is Metaverse in Banking and How does it Work ?

What is Metaverse in Banking ?

The metaverse, as we are all aware, is a virtual reality environment where users can engage in interactions and have real-world experiences. However, by utilising artificial reality and virtual reality technology, users may immerse themselves in this world and engage with items and people that are superimposed over the image that is presented in front of them. With Metaverse integration, Banks will undoubtedly improve in their efforts to understand it better and connect with the young gamers and enthusiasts who utilise it.

How does Metaverse Bank work ?

The focus of Metaverse in Banking has so far been on building Virtual Branches where they can offer customer care to their current clients or market banking products to a new generation of digitally literate gen-z consumers.

New metaverse platforms like The Sandbox, Decentraland, and Somnium Space draw tens of thousands of users per month, yet well-known video game platforms like Roblox or Fortnite, which have metaverse-like features, can draw millions. Their target customers are digital natives, and banks are eager to work with businesses that understand and appreciate virtual worlds and gaming-like experiences.

Banks currently focusing to own land, construct lobbys, games, and systems that enable players to buy, sell, and convert game tokens into cash. Few of the Metaverse's Early Adopters in Global Space are,

HSBC

The first branch of HSBC, which they plan to utilise to interact with followers of online sports and e-sports, is built in Sandbox and opened in March 2022. Suresh Balaji, the company's chief marketing officer for the Asia Pacific area, stated that "the metaverse is how users will experience Web3, the next generation of the internet, leveraging immersive technologies like augmented reality, virtual reality, and extended reality." He continued, "At HSBC, we see significant potential to build new experiences through emerging platforms, opening up a world of possibility for our present and future clients and the communities we serve."

J.P. Morgan

Another major international bank that has already established a presence on the Decentraland platform is JP Morgan Chase. Inside the platform's Metajuku virtual mall, it established a lounge space called Onyx where guests can learn more about blockchain and other tech-related projects the bank is involved in. However, it is not a working bank branch. It also has a picture of the company's CEO, Jamie Dimon, and a tiger.

Siam Commercial Bank

The Sandbox's first bank to establish a headquarters is Siam Commercial Bank. The area is divided into three zones: the first is a virtual hub with a place for gatherings and knowledge sharing. The second is virtual land, a place where affiliated companies can communicate while working on a project. and finally, Hub, where Siam Metaverse Bank uses the NFT gallery, NFT marketplace, and virtual concerts to support local artists.

Zelf

With a goal to democratise access to financial services, Digital Bank and Fintech based Startup ZELF geared businesses toward the younger demographic. As of Now, Even though these are just a few of the most recognisable Banks in the metaverse banking industry, there are many more banks hitting the market as we talk about this transformation.

How will Metaverse benefit Banks ?

Banks and Related Industries have a stake in establishing themselves as tech-savvy, trailblazing high-tech companies and Banks must make sure they are viewed as being on the cutting edge given how much our lives are being revolutionised by the incorporation of new technologies like artificial intelligence (AI), virtual reality (VR), and internet of things (IoT). One of the reasons banks are taking this action is to maintain their ability to draw in top talent, which would otherwise prefer to seek to technology behemoths like Google, Facebook, Apple, and other FAANG Companies for the most intriguing and lucrative career prospects.

For the purpose of enabling a Super-App and Marketplace in the metaverse, the platform will connect its Open API connections with Aggregators and Gateways.

The banking sector may benefit from the metaverse since it might create links between the online and offline worlds and draw young people to their platforms. if it develops into a paradigm. The bank will be able to improve its engagement with the community of clients and followers by enabling a virtual interpersonal contact in the parallel metaverse that combines the actual world and the digital world.
